Why We Love This Simple Coconut Oil Smoothie

We love smoothies at our house, and I’m a huge fan of coconut oil and its many uses. We cook with it, use it for skincare, make soap, use it in smoothies and more!

This smoothie is a great way to get in some healthy fats and antioxidants from the green tea (which has also been shown to help with weight loss!). It’s also a great way to get your fruits in for the day!

How Can Coconut Oil Help with Weight Loss?

Coconut oil is a natural saturated fat that contains Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs). MCTs are a type of saturated fat that is metabolized differently than other types of fat. Coconut oil has been shown to boost metabolism and help burn more calories.

You will not lose weight by just adding coconut oil to your diet alone, however. You will also need to make healthy dietary choices and exercise, but changing out a high calorie, sugar-laden breakfast with a coconut oil smoothie can help you lose weight.

The coconut oil will help you feel fuller than a smoothie without healthy fat, so use this smoothie as part of your healthy eating and exercise plan.

Ingredients in our Healthy Smoothie Recipe

Peach

Peaches are great sources of fiber, vitamins A and C, and potassium. They’re also low in calories and have a natural sweetness that makes them perfect for smoothies!

You can use fresh or frozen peaches in this recipe. We use fresh when they are in season and frozen the rest of the year.

Mango

Mangoes are another great source of fiber, vitamins A and C, and potassium. They’re also a good source of beta-carotene, which is an antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage.

You can use fresh or frozen mangoes in this recipe. We usually have frozen mango on hand, but fresh mangoes are great when they’re in season and on sale!

Banana

Bananas are a great source of potassium, vitamin C, and fiber. They’re also a good source of B vitamins, which are important for energy.

You can use fresh or frozen bananas in this recipe. We like to use frozen bananas because they make the smoothie thick and creamy. If you use a fresh banana, you may need to add a few ice cubes to the blender.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a healthy saturated fat that contains Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs). MCTs are a type of saturated fat that is metabolized differently than other types of fat. Coconut oil has been shown to boost metabolism and help burn more calories.

You can find coconut oil in the cooking aisle of most grocery stores. We like to use organic, unrefined extra virgin coconut oil for best flavor and the most health benefits. (We buy ours in big tubs at Sam’s.) You can also use MCT oil, which remains liquid and will eliminate coconut oil clumps that can sometimes occur.

Green Tea

Green tea is a great source of antioxidants, which can help protect cells from damage. It’s also been shown to boost metabolism and help with weight loss.

You can find green tea bags in the grocery store near the other tea. We like to use organic green tea bags for the best flavor and health benefits.

How to Make a Coconut Oil Smoothie

1. Start by adding the peaches, mango, banana, coconut oil, and green tea to your blender.

2. Blend on high until smooth.

3. Serve and enjoy!

This coconut oil smoothie is a delicious and healthy way to start your day! It’s full of fiber, vitamins, and healthy fats that can help you lose weight.

If your smoothie is too thick, you can add a little water or milk until it reaches the desired consistency. If you find that your smoothie is too sweet, you can add a little lime juice to balance it out.

How to Customize This Easy Smoothie Recipe

Make it green: Add a handful of spinach, swiss chard or kale to the blender for a nutrient boost. You get a ton of extra nutrition for very few extra calories. You can also use a scoop of super greens powder for green smoothies.

Change up the liquid: Use almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk or any other milk in place of the green tea. You can also use plain water or coconut water.

Make it protein packed: Add a scoop of protein powder to the blender. We like to use plant-based protein powder, but any type will work (occasionally I will use whey protein powder). You can also use Greek yogurt, peanut butter or almond butter.

Make it a smoothie bowl: Pour your smoothie into a bowl and top with fresh fruit, nuts, or seeds. This makes a great breakfast or snack!

Add superfoods: You can add a scoop of super greens powder, chia seeds, flaxseed meal, or any other type of healthy powder to the blender. This will boost the nutrition of your smoothie without changing the taste.

As you can see, there are endless ways to customize this recipe to make it your own! We hope you enjoy it!

Coconut Oil Smoothie Tips

  • Add liquid to the blender first, then add the softer ingredients. This will help your blender run more smoothly.
  • If using frozen fruit, you may need to add a little liquid to get the blender going.
  • If your smoothie is too thick, add a little more liquid until it reaches the desired consistency.
  • If your smoothie is too sweet, add a little lime juice to balance it out.
  • You can make this recipe in advance and store it in the fridge for up to 24 hours. Just give it a good shake before drinking.
  • This recipe is for two small servings or one large serving, but you can easily double or triple it to make enough for the whole family. With four boys to feed I do this a lot.
