Are Avocados Good for Weight Loss?
Yes! Avocados are wonderful for helping you lose and maintain weight.
Avocado is a wonderful source of vitamin K needed for blood clotting and also found in leafy greens, folate that helps prevent birth defects and is found in legumes, vitamin C, an antioxidant found in citrus fruits and tomatoes, potassium that helps regulate blood pressure and is found in bananas, and dietary fiber which helps you feel full.
What makes avocados unique is that they are a good source of monounsaturated fats – heart healthy fats, which have been shown to help lower LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
Regular consumption of avocado has been linked with a lower body weight and waist circumference. So, if you are looking to lose weight, adding avocado to your diet is a great way to do it. (source)

Why We Love this Easy Smoothie Recipe
I have four young boys and I’m always looking for something quick yet healthy that I can take with me out the door on the way to school. Smoothies have become my go-to choice for this as I’ve been losing weight.
I created this easy recipe with only four ingredients so I can quickly throw it together and get out the door quickly with this crew!
Ingredients in Our Healthy Avocado Smoothie Recipe
I chose almond milk as the base for my smoothie because it’s low in calories and has no sugar. You could also use skim milk, but I prefer the taste of almond milk.
We have a dairy free kid in the house so we use a lot of nondairy milk and other products for him and it’s just easier to make it all the same, plus it really is delicious.
For weight loss, choose an unsweetened almond milk – you can get either plain or vanilla in unsweetened varieties so we steer clear of added sugar.
Avocados are my favorite ingredient in this smoothie. They provide healthy fats that help you feel full and satisfied after drinking the smoothie.
They also add a great creaminess to the drink without adding any dairy. Even if you don’t like avocado by itself I encourage you to try it in a smoothie. I don’t like to eat avocado, but blended in a smoothie I can disguise its taste and still get the health benefits.
I add honey to this recipe for two reasons: first, it’s a natural sweetener so it doesn’t add any processed foods or artificial sweeteners but gives you a sweeter taste; and second, honey has some amazing health benefits.
Honey is a great source of antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. (source) If you don’t want any type of sugar added to this recipe and prefer to use fruit, you can substitute the honey in this recipe for half a banana for an avocado banana smoothie. (We prefer frozen banana.)
I add spinach to this smoothie for the extra nutrients it provides. Spinach is low in calories but high in vitamins and minerals. It’s a great source of vitamins A, C, and K, as well as folate and iron.
Plus, adding spinach to your smoothie is a great way to sneak in some extra greens into your diet!
How to Make this Healthy Smoothie Recipe
Now that we’ve gone over all of the healthy ingredients in this recipe, let’s get to the fun part – how to make it!
This smoothie could not be any easier to make. Simply add all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
You may need to add a little more almond milk if it’s too thick. I like my smoothies on the thicker side, but you can add more milk until it reaches your desired consistency.
One thing to note – if you are using frozen spinach, you may need to add a little more milk to get it started blending.
And that’s it! Just blend and enjoy.

How to Customize Your Easy Avocado Smoothie
Another thing I love about smoothies is how easy they are to customize to your liking.
-Change the almond milk out for coconut milk, oat milk, regular milk or even water or coconut water. If you want a creamy texture I would recommend some type of milk.
-Add more or less honey to taste, or sub the honey for maple syrup, agave or even stevia.
-Use frozen or fresh spinach – both work great in this recipe.
-Add some protein powder or Greek yogurt for an extra boost of protein.
-Throw in a handful of blueberries or raspberries for added sweetness and flavor.
-Add in superfoods such as chia seeds, flax seed, or hemp hearts, greens powder, matcha, maca root, spirunlina.
-Use vanilla extract in place of the honey for a different flavor.
-Add in another healthy fat with nut butter such as almond butter or peanut butter.
