After the birth of my first child we struggled with infertility. We started trying to conceive when he was about 1 and had months on end of nothing. Finally, I sought the help of my OB/GYN.

Tests showed that I had low progesterone and what followed was six rounds of Clomid before we finally conceived. I remember that feeling of wanting a baby so badly, even though I had one little guy. I wanted him to have a sibling, and finally it was happening.

I became a green smoothie fanatic during my third pregnancy due to the health benefits and minimal prep time and it really does help your health. Smoothies are an easy way to get more great foods into your diet as the right recipe can contain a huge amount of nutrients. Smoothies are a great addition to your fertility diet.

The Best Ingredients for a Fertility Smoothie

While smoothies aren’t the only answer to helping improve egg quality or sperm health, they can be one part of the puzzle that can help you get more quality nutrients into your healthy diet.

Try to choose whole foods and eat a whole food diet whenever possible and limit the amount of processed foods in your diet.

Here are some of the best ingredients for your next fertility smoothie:

Foods Rich in Antioxidants

According to Healthline, “foods rich in antioxidants such as folate and zinc may help improve fertility in both men and women”.

Here are some of the foods that have the most antioxidants:

-Fruit, especially berries

-Vegetables, especially leafy greens

Nuts and seeds, such as walnuts, almonds, chia seeds, hemp seeds and flax seed

-Whole grains, such as oats, which are also high in fiber

-1/2 cup kale

-1/2 avocado

-1 tablespoon honey
